Willow Creek Association

South Barrington, Illinois

The Willow Creek Association serves more than 12,000 member churches around the world with life-changing experiences, tools, and innovation; calling churches everywhere to follow their unique vision and reach their full potential.

Story

Our story work focused in on two areas of the Willow Creek Association. First, the Willow Arts team took advantage of the opportunity to retell their story in a compelling way to their customers. We worked with their team, key stakeholders, and industry experts to develop a story that communicated the truly unique aspects of Willow Arts. The final story centered on the idea of how art communicates truth and how it creates moments that transcend our world.

Secondly, the REVEAL team asked us to help craft the story of this ministry that was forming. This team had worked diligently to create an amazing body of research into how people engage spiritually. With this research as our foundation, we went through our story definition process with the REVEAL founders. The result of this effort was a truly groundbreaking brand that asked the question “Where are you?”. The key to this story is that the REVEAL team provided the answer to this question through a controversial book with the same title.

Culture

From its beginning the WCA’s main sources of organization and revenue came from conferences, membership services and resources. The primary source of the Association’s offerings came from the innovations of Willow Creek Community Church. As the Association grew and innovations were coming from around the US, the vision and major strategy needed to change. The changes also brought the need for leadership and leadership processes to be reviewed.

The CHANGEffect:
During five months of assessment, it became clear that the current leadership group needed to be changed and many of the operating processes changed. Much growth and great need helped push the changes. The results were multiple leadership changes as well as internal process changes. This was followed up by weekly and then monthly follow up meetings in order to stay on track.
