It’s a Starfish World
I am currently reading one of those books I think every leader or leader-in-training should read: The Starfish and the Spider, The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organizations, by Ori Brafman and Rod A. Beckstrom. A truly contrarian approach to the typical centralized top-down organizational approach, this book challenges your thought paradigms using models such as: Alcoholics Anonymous, craiglist.com, Wikipedia, the Apache Indians, Napster and al Qaeda to name a few – each the epitome of “successful and thriving” models of decentralization. And the Winner of the Six-Word Story Contest is…
Recently, a couple members of our team were at a conference in Dallas. The Christian Leadership Alliance (formerly the Christian Management Association) had their annual conference there. We rocked the house like we usually do, but this time something was different. We asked conference attendees to write a six-word story representing their life, with the winning story earning that person a iPod Touch.
